What is the difference between getting a ferratin blood

Customer Question

What is the difference between getting a ferratin blood result and getting an iron level blood result. Can you get a normal ferratin result but a low iron result. what does that mean?? IF one is normal why would one be abnormal? My ferratin is normal but my iron is low. What should i do? should i see a consultant

This is Dr. David

ferritin is a measure of stored iron

serum iron is a measure of how much iron is in the blood stream.

ferritin stored iron is more important since this is the iron which can be used by your bone marrow to make red blood cells.

low serum iron levels is really not a big deal

if your hemoglobin and hematocrit levels are good

let me know if you have questions.
