Customer Question

I have been told by two Pharmacists that Nortriptyline and Fluroxitine (Prozac) have similar actions and interact with one another and should not be used together. Is that true? Also, if they have similar actions can Prozac weekly at 90 mg substitute for Nortriptyline and low dose Prozac?

nortriptyline is an older tricyclic antidepressant used to help sleep and treat mild depression

prozac is an SSRI selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressant

the two medications taken can increase the nortriptyline dose and cause risks for SIADH (syndrome of inappropriate anti-diuretic hormone) or hyponatremia (low sodium levels), or serotonin syndrome or other problems

talk to your doctor before taking both of these in the same day.

Prozac 90mg weekly can be used as maintenance therapy to treat depression disorder instead of daily prozac
