Customer Question

I have a hearing problem. I use hearing aids. I keep hearing a 'motor sound' that others do not hear. It sounds like a motor a few blocks away. Is it o.k. What do you suggest?

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Sorry to hear about the problem.

Motor sound is likely due to the hearing loss in the affected ear more than the other ear.

This is also known as tinnitus.

The motor noise can be addressed by a masking device.

A masking device is like a hearing aid aimed at suppressing the motor noise.

Another option will be electrical stimulation of the cochlea to reduce the noise.

Ginkgo biloba 400 mg twice daily, melatonin 3 mg daily may be beneficial as well to reduce the noise.

This is not likely anything serious, but do discuss with your ENT specialist as well.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
