Hello from JustAnswer.
It is unusual for heart disease to present as coughing and wheezing in 36 year old females, even if they have smoked since age 12.
It is far more likely that coughing and wheezing would be related to lung disease, either as an acute illness, such as bronchitis, or a chronic disease, such as COPD. The duration of symptoms would suggest whether this would be an acute or a chronic problem.
Proper diagnosis would typically be done by physical examination, along with a chest x-ray or spirometry, also called pulmonary function tests. If you are not having significant shortness of breath or chest pain, then this problem can be evaluated electively as an out-patient. However, if you develop significant shortness of breath or chest pain, then it would be appropriate to be seen urgently.
