Customer Question

I was diagnosed with bronchitis about 7 days ago. I am taking Augmentin, but I still feel terrible and have copious nasal mucous. Should I be better by now?

Hi there,

Yes you should have noticed some improvement by now.

Hence there are few possibilities here:

1. the infection was viral to begin with--will not respond to antibiotics. Body fights it off over time.

2. Resistant bacterial infection --augmentin was not strong enough to clear the infection. This will be suggested by the persistent fever, thick purulent nasal drainage, and also worsening shortness of breath.

You can use over the counter Flonase nasal spray daily to reduce the inflammation and the nasal secretions.

Flonase is a strong steroid and works better with nasal drainage from viral infection or seasonal allergies.

You should also see your doctor for another clinical evaluation.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
