Customer Question

my husband came down with a rash, has a fever, neck pain and is extremely fatigued. He is pale and has some chest tightening, but also has allergy induced asthma but controlled. He started taking Bactrim a week ago for a spider bite. He went to Urgent Care this morning and was given an RX for Prednisone 20MG, along with Claritin D. He does have Guillain Barre disease and I am concerned he's on overload. What should I be looking for, and am I overreacting saying I think we should head to the hospital?

It's Gilbert's Syndrome, not Guillain Barre.

Hi there,

I understand your concerns.

These symptoms sound like seveere immune reaction against the spider bite.

Prednisone should help in combating the inflammatory response.

The symptoms should show improvement.

However look for any worsening breathing, persistent high fever and inability to speak signifying asthma exacerbation.

Then he has to go the ER.

Prednisone will not affect Gilbert's which is a benign condition.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
