My daughter's Prozac (20) ran out in between her current

Customer Question

My daughter's Prozac (20) ran out in between her current psychiatrist having left the practice and scheduling an appointment with a new doctor. Her former doctor won't extend the prescription (understandably) because she is past due for an appointment, and of course the new doctor can't prescribe without seeing her. She has not taken Prozac for a week now but is asking to take her sister's Prozac (40). I am VERY hesitant, but her OCD symptoms are worsening. She is a 17 year old AP student, and very responsible; if she could go without until her new appointment (15 days) i know she would.

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.
I understand your situation.
it is always best to take your own medications from your own doctor.
prozac 40mg can be cut in 1/2 to 20mg doses.
I hope her OCD symptoms don't get worse.
I hope her older sister has enough prozac pills to spare until her next appointment. she could be caught short in the future as well
we can not give out prescriptions to clients here we can't see or examine.
I'm sure you will do the right thing for your daughters
let me know if you have questions.
