How contagious is shingles? I am planning to visit and stay

Customer Question

How contagious is shingles? I am planning to visit and stay with a friend who has just contracted it. I am 74 years old and have a heart condition called cardio myopathy. I believe I did have chicken pox as a child. I had the shingles vaccination about five years ago. Am I at risk?

It would not be contagious to you at all.
An unvaccinated person who never had chicken pox can, rarely catch chicken pox.
But you do not catch shingles.
OK, so that is an initial answer….
