I just switched from the brand Tenormin to the generic

Customer Question

Hi, I just switched from the brand Tenormin to the generic Atenolol. Only problem is, the generic causes terrible ringing in my ears. The brand Tenormin did not. I have tried a couple of other generic manufacturers for the generic Tenormin with no luck. I wish the brand name Tenormin was still available at a reasonable price. So I'm thinking of asking my Dr if I should switch to the generic Lopressor (which my mom was on for many years for the same tach. that I have)

Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.
Tenormin is brand name atenolol
yes, you can try to switch to Lopressor and see if that works better for you without causing you ringing in your ears.
the only way to know if Lopressor works for you is to try it.
your doctor should be willing to switch you
some people don't respond as well to generics as others
it sounds like you fall into that category
let me know if you have other questions.
