Unbearable pain in left hip and flank for three days. Nerve

Customer Question

Unbearable pain in left hip and flank for three days. Nerve endings are so stressed, it hurts to even rub the area lightly. Primary Care doc gave me a muscle relaxant. Only thing that seems to subdue the pain is oxycodone of which I've taken 3. Saw chiropractor, he's usually very good, but didn't help at all. The oxycodone had been in the cabinet for a few months due to my husband's chronic pain. I don't like using it -- don't want to become addicted. What should I do next.

Hi there,

I am sorry to hear about your sufferings.

You may have advanced osteoarthritis of the left hip joint.

Also lumbar spine arthritis is also a possibility.

MRI scan of the hip and lumbar spine are required first.

Intra articular steroid injection will be beneficial.

You should see a pain specialist for this procedure.

Oxycodone is an addictive medication.

Hence, long term use is not recommended.

There are other non narcotic oral medications to control your pain.

Gabapentin is one such example.

Nortriptyline also can be used.

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us today. If you have any additional questions or need further clarifications, please do not hesitate to ask. I am here to answer them. I wish you good health. Regards, ***** *****
