Customer Question

I've been feeling nauseated for the last 3 days along with a mild headache. I have more a less lost my appetite. If and when I do eat, I can only eat a little at a time. I don't know what it is and I've never had anything like this happen before (where I don't know why I'm still nauseated and it won't go away). Also, I'm kind of a heavy drinker. I drank a lot before the nausea really started (3 mixed drinks & half a bottle of wine).

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, Experienced Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.
Nausea can be from the gastritis or inflammation of stomach lining.
Viral infection and alcohol can cause this commonly.
Another possibility can be gallbladder disease.
Gallbladder inflammation or gallstones can cause these symptom.
Next serious possibility can be pancreatitis.
Inflammation of pancreas interferes with the release of digestive enzymes.
This can cause the symptoms.
Lastly, hepatitis is a possibility as well.
Alcohol and virus both can contribute to that.
Given these possibilities you should go to the urgent care or see your doctor at least for further evaluation.
I recommend liver function test, serum amylase, lipase levels at least.
Over the counter medications that may help with symptoms:
1. peptobismol or Bonine tablets for nausea
2. Omeprazole ( prilosec otc) twice daily for gastritis.
Continue with your dietary changes and drink plenty of fluids.
Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
