My daughter ate a pork sandwich that wasn't cook throughly

Customer Question

My daughter ate a pork sandwich that wasn't cook throughly and now she has worms. The doctor prescribed Ilivernectin, 8 days ago and she still feels the worms, and sees the head poking through her skin. This medicine is not working, what do you suggest?

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, Experienced Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.
First of all, it is important to identify the worms.
In undercooked pork, Tapeworms or cysticerci are commonly found.
They are not treated with ivermectin.
Ivermectin is not useful.
Your daughter needs to take different medication.
Praziquantel is the best medication.
Praziquantel dose is 10 mg/kg single dose.
Hence, she should discuss with her doctor about this medication.
Stool tests also should be done.
Infectious disease specialist can be consulted with also.
Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
