Customer Question

So.....for the past week, sometimes when i chew (usually chewy breads) i get a pain in the base of my neck. I get this a little ifi talk too much too. None of this is consistent though. I have a stiff neck from my football days and a slight hunch because of bad posture at the office. No sore throat, at times it feels a bit swollen but vitamin C and eccinicea have been taking care of that. Anyway, wondering if this is more of a dentist issue or doctor issue and which i should see first as well as any info I can get. Maybe a quick home diagnostic if that is even possible!

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, Experienced Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.
This sounds like muscle stiffness related issue or muscle spasms.
Talking or chewing likely makes the SCM muscle tired and causing the pain.
Cervical spine arthritis can make it more likely.
Physical therapy of the neck muscles will help.
Muscle relaxants like flexeril also may be used by prescription.
Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
