My heart skips every third or fourth beat. I had quadruple

Customer Question

my heart skips every third or fourth beat. I had quadruple by pass 15 years ago. I saw my cardiologist 4 weeks ago he took an ekg and there were no changes. I discussed the shipped beats and he told me to take 12.5 m of carvedilol in the morning instead of 6.25and 6.25 at nigth and he told me to take a magnesium supplement. Should I be concerned? Is the afib?

Hi there,

I understand your concern.

Skipping beat at regularity of 3rd or 4th beat is not likely a fib.

Afib causes a completely irregular rhythm.

And heart rate often goes above 100 during the run.

This is likely ventricular trigemini --a benign arrhythmia.

So nothing to worry about

Carvedilol dose should help --the dose can be increased if needed.

However, a holter monitoring also should be planned to capture the heart rhythm during these episodes for confirmation.

Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.
