I just had an ultrasound of my abdomen. Results came out as gallstones and echogenic ? fatty infiltrate in liver. My liver enzymes are normal. I Di have an hematoma of my liver.

I am really scared now could you offer me some advise?

BTW I had a liver ultrasound about 4 years ago when my gastroenterologist during a scope of my stomach, observed some bulging veins in my esophagus. No portal hypertension discovered. Then or now

Dr. D.J. :

Hi there,

This is Dr. D.J., experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Dr. D.J. :

Fat infiltration in the liver reflects the ultrasound wave producing echogenic shadow.

Dr. D.J. :

This is not serious.

Dr. D.J. :

Fatty liver can be caused by the obesity, alcohol, diabetes, high lipid profile.

Dr. D.J. :

Do you have any symptoms currently?

Customer: Well I have gastric issues and went to the ER today to assess heart pain or epigastric. Since I have gall stones they did the ultrasound to see if my gallbladder was the issue and that's what the finding was. The Dr did not make much of the findings as they didn't even address the issue .
Dr. D.J. :

Dr. D.J. :

gall stones can cause symptoms intermittently.

Dr. D.J. :

There is nothing bad in your ultrasound.

Dr. D.J. :

Probably you should consider gall stone removal.

Customer: Yes I am entertaining the removal of the gall stones There was no inflammation in the gall bladder however my bilirubin values are always elevated. Today mine was 1.6
Dr. D.J. :

ok --only mild elevation.

Dr. D.J. :

Are you overweight?

Customer: i just don't want an additional problem with my liver. I am going to loose weight I am overweight
Dr. D.J. :

yes that is important.

Dr. D.J. :

The liver problem will improve with that.

Dr. D.J. :

Here are some advices on liver healthy diet:

Dr. D.J. :

Please include plentiful amounts of raw fruits and vegetables, especially dark green leafy vegetables and orange, yellow, purple and red colored fruits and vegetables, as they have vitamin C, natural antiseptic and anticancer properties. Tomatoes, Beetroots and broccolis are very good for liver and also offer protection against cancer.

Avoid the saturated fats like: full-cream dairy products, margarines, processed vegetable oils (hydrogenated fats), deep fried foods, foods that are not fresh and contain rancid fats, preserved meats, animal skins and fatty meats.

Please consider oat, rice, almond or soy milks. Eat the good fats which contain essential fatty acids in their natural unprocessed form.

These are found in cold pressed vegetable and seed oils, avocados, fish (especially oily fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, herring, sablefish, flounder, trout, bass and mackerel), shrimp, prawns and crayfish, raw fresh nuts, raw fresh seeds such as flaxseeds (linseeds), sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, hemp seeds, alfalfa seeds, pumpkin seeds and legumes (beans, peas and lentils). Seeds such as flaxseeds can be ground freshly everyday (in a regular coffee grinder or food processor) and can be added to cereals, smoothies, fruit salads and vegetables. Spirulina, evening primrose oil, black currant seed oil, borage oil and lecithin also contain healthy oils to help the liver.

Dr. D.J. :

Please avoid butter and/or margarine on your breads and crackers. Replace them with tahini, hummus, pesto, tomato paste or relish, freshly minced garlic and cold pressed oil (chilli or other natural spices can be added if enjoyed), nut-spreads, fresh avocado or cold pressed olive oil.

Dr. D.J. :

Please consume a wide range of proteins from grains, raw nuts, seeds, legumes, eggs, seafood, and if desired, free range chicken (without the skin), and lean fresh red meats.

Customer: I do not have diabetes but I do have HTN and high cholesterol. Both controlled. LDL is within normal limits, hdl is 64 which is great, but my triglycerides was minimally over normal
Dr. D.J. :

that is expected of being overweight.

Dr. D.J. :

some degree of insulin resistance is expected.

Customer: Wow you have given me a wealth of information. Now I must figure out how to eat appropriately.
Customer: So in your opinion my ultrasound probably does not suggest something serious.
Dr. D.J. :

that is correct.

Customer: Thank you for your time and expertise doctor. If I need to can I contact you once again
Dr. D.J. :

yes sure

Dr. D.J. :

It was my pleasure to help you today.
