Have a question about a large knot I have from a fall where the bruise is going away but not the lump/knot
Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.

yes, what questions do you have about it.

the lump or knot could be scar tissue from the bruise, or it could be a seroma or fluid collection from the fall.

I would use ice to help decrease swelling instead of heat

you might need an ultrasound of the area to know for sure what is in the lump

do you have a doctor you can see who can order you an ultrasound?

Hi- Went to DR and they said not to drain it and will be going back in a week but concerned in the meantime that it has not changed at all but the bruise has and it is painful to the touch. I was told ice on first day and wet heat after first day.

sounds like there is still an injury there.

I would go back to icing it which will help decrease inflammation, help decrease swelling and help decrease pain.

heat is only good for relaxing tight muscles. I don't think you are having problems with tight muscles there.

I think the knot is most likely a seroma or fluid collection which can occur after an injury like yours.

I'm glad the bruise has gotten better.

What is a seroma? If it is fluid or seroma, is ice the answer?

seroma is a fluid collection which can happen after an injury or surgery.

yes, ice wil help decease pain, help decrease swelling and help with healing.

ice the area for 20-30 mintues at a time for 4-6 times a day

best of luck to you
