I am treating skin problem with metrogel. Apparently, I had some gel on my hands and touch my mouth. I now have extreme burning in the roof of my mouth and throat. Can you suggest what I should do?
Thanks for posting your query.
I am DocNid and I am pleased to assist you.

Since when do you have this symptom?
What was the interval between touching your mouth and getting that symptom?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

The onset was about an hour ago when I touched my mouth. Reaction was immediate.

Hi Marsha,
Thanks for providing the additional information.

Metrogel contains metronidazole meant for topical application.
But when it comes in to contact with mucous membrane like the inner side of the mouth or the inner side of the eye lids, some degree os burning is felt.

There is no need to worry as it will subside with a few hours time.

For relief from burning sensation, topical lignocaine gel may be applied which will provide instant relief.
but if you have other symptoms like itching or breathing difficulty, then it may indicate an allergic reaction to the medication and you need to contact your doctor immediately.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
