This answer was rated:

Elevated ALT liver ezymes. Were 63 then 67 then 72 over period of two weeks.

Had been taken several over the counter meds, motrin, zantac, zyrtec, allegra, doxycyline for sinus infection. Xanax for anxiety but only

Have not taken any meds for 10 days.

was tested for hepatitis and came back negative, all other blood tests were normal.

Dr. Cameron :

hello

Dr. Cameron :

welcome to the chat

Dr. Cameron :

are you still there?

Dr. Cameron :

Did you have an ultrasound of your liver or have you been diagnosed with fatty liver?

Customer:

I had an ultrasound yes, it was negative for everything

Customer:

the GI doctor i saw said that small amounts of fatty liver may not show

Dr. Cameron :

ok

Customer:

Just very scared as the number has increased

Dr. Cameron :

Do you drink any alcohol? Did you get tested for CMV or EBV?

Dr. Cameron :

Do you take any think like tylenol?

Customer:

I drink on occasion, mostly binge drink at bachelor parties, but only a few times this year

Dr. Cameron :

EBV= mono, btw

Customer:

I wasnt tested for that no, but all my other blood levels were normal

Dr. Cameron :

okay

Customer:

i did have a slightly swollen lymph node a month ago

Customer:

was put on doxycyline for that

Dr. Cameron :

When is the last time you drank?

Dr. Cameron :

Also do you take tylenol or acetaminophen?

Customer:

i havent drank in 17 days

Dr. Cameron :

do you take tylenol or acetaminophen?

Customer:

around the same time i was drinking

Customer:

i had taken motrin

Customer:

zantac

Customer:

pepto, zytec

Customer:

zyrtec, allegra

Customer:

and two weeks prior i took .25mg of xanax

Customer:

for three days

Dr. Cameron :

OK. Well, I would NOT NOT be concerned

Dr. Cameron :

because you can get a bump in your LFTs which is temporary for a NUMBER of reasons

Dr. Cameron :

the most common of which is a regular virus (not hepatitis)

Dr. Cameron :

Or a little drinking

Customer:

I feel fine, and have no pain

Dr. Cameron :

You may have had mono or CMV- could have given you that swollen lymph node

Dr. Cameron :

Right, the best thing to do is to recheck in about 1 month

Customer:

just very anxious, as i thought the number would start to come down

Dr. Cameron :

the increase of 63 to 67 to 72 is not that significant

Dr. Cameron :

I know, but it can take a while

Customer:

The GI specialist told me to wait three months

Customer:

I have put on about 15 pounds in two years

Dr. Cameron :

Bad liver inflammation is like 1000s...

Customer:

eat a lot of fast food, i am 6 3, and 215

Dr. Cameron :

Fatty liver can cause this as well

Customer:

Had LDL level of 133 last year

Customer:

and have continued the bad eating since then

Dr. Cameron :

you need to work on your diet, eating better and then recheck in about 3 months

Customer:

Is there something bad that would be causing this

Customer:

im very scared

Dr. Cameron :

no, I honestly think NO

Customer:

The doctors dont seem concerned, but i just see that number rising

Dr. Cameron :

I think that this is probably your fatty liver and you may have caught a mild virus

Dr. Cameron :

I personally have had LFTs that high

Dr. Cameron :

And I am thin. I just got mono and it went up to 120

Dr. Cameron :

And then it went back down

Customer:

Does it rise and then keep rising

Customer:

then drop

Customer:

I havent eaten badly

Customer:

since i found out, and havent used meds

Dr. Cameron :

it can rise for a month or so, but then it slowly goes down, once you eat better, etc

Customer:

so its not strange for it to continue to go up

Dr. Cameron :

nope

Customer:

I am also going on a trip tomorrow

Dr. Cameron :

especially if you have not been eating well

Dr. Cameron :

it takes a month or so for the inflammation to resolve

Customer:

i take ativan to fly, and was goin to drink while there

Dr. Cameron :

it is not overnight

Customer:

should i abstain

Dr. Cameron :

I would not drink until the labs are normal

Customer:

But you wouldnt be concerned if you were m

Customer:

me

Dr. Cameron :

I would NOT be concerned at all

Customer:

What about the ativan

Customer:

to fly

Dr. Cameron :

ativan is fine

Customer:

The ultrasound would have showed any bad things

Customer:

cancer and big issues

Dr. Cameron :

yes

Dr. Cameron :

you are also a little young for that. give yourself another 30 years

Customer:

In your opinion do you agree it is fatty liver?

Dr. Cameron :

If that is what is seen on ultrasound, then yes, but it is reversible with good diet and exercise

Customer:

it wasnt seen

Customer:

but the GI guy said small levels of it wouldnt show up

Customer:

My regular doctor said my levels may simply always be high

Dr. Cameron :

Sorry, I thought that they saw a little- but either way yes small amounts would not show up

Dr. Cameron :

but with your diet, I do think that you have a small amount of fatty liver

Customer:

typically been fast food 3 plus times a week for 2 years since i finished dental school

Customer:

So nothing to panic over

Customer:

just loose the weight

Customer:

no drinking

Dr. Cameron :

nothing to panic

Dr. Cameron :

lose weight, no booze

Dr. Cameron :

you will be fine

Customer:

and your confident in this

Dr. Cameron :

YES

Customer:

The GI guy said he wouldnt be concerned unless the number shot to 100 this time

Customer:

but i saw the rise and it scared me

Dr. Cameron :

right, I would not worry until then

Customer:

since i had been exercisng and eating better

Customer:

but only for 10 days or so

Customer:

The blood tests were also done at different labs

Dr. Cameron :

keep at it

Dr. Cameron :

it is a lifestyle change

Customer:

but nothing that would kill me

Customer:

severe health anxiety sorry to keep harping on this

Dr. Cameron :

no, not this :-)

Dr. Cameron :

I hope that I provided you with excellent service? :-)?

Customer:

yeah you do

Customer:

did

Customer:

i feel much better

Customer:

was just very scared over the increase

Customer:

but if you think its not a big deal

Customer:

that makes me feel better

Dr. Cameron :

I don't. I think that you should go out for a walk and get some fresh air and some exercise now :-)

Customer:

Will do

Customer:

thanks again
