liver f test alt 128 What does this mean
Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and I'm ready to help.

ALT is one of the liver enzymes along with AST

elevation ALT of 128 is slightly elevated, normal range is 7 to 56.

ALT of 128 can be slight liver inflammation.

liver inflammation can come from infection, hepatitis, or alcohol use, or certain medications.

you need further testing to find out what is causing this. sometimes the ALT elevation can be temporary as well.

what medications are you on? are you on cholesterol lowering medications? statin cholesterol medications can often elevate ALT or AST levels.

do you drink alcohol?

blood test 20 years ago confirmed positive hep c

I see.

have you gotten treatment for hepatitis C?

you should see a liver specialist now

and get a viral load test of your hep C and evaluation of your liver at this point.

was this ALT level just a routine blood test?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

I have not had any treatment for hep c it was a routine blood test

I see

you need to talk to your doctor who ordered this routine blood test and make sure they know your history of hepatitis C

and ask for more testing to check on your liver and viral load for hepatitis.

you might need a liver ultrasound as well to assess your liver structure and status.

does this make sense?

does this help?

do you have other questions?

thanks doc I have been a bit shy talking about hep c in the past Will be having a liver ultra sound on Monday and talk to my local soon after cheers ***** ***** I say I will cut my alcohol intake

you should cut your alcohol intake.

alcohol will worsen your liver function.
