Have you ever heard of a woman becoming alcohol intolerant

This answer was rated:

Have you ever heard of a woman becoming alcohol intolerant as she goes through menopause? Any kind of alcohol, just one drink, and I end up with a hangover - severe headache, nauseous all next day. Also, am not a big drinker, never have been - 1-2 drinks a week max! Age 59, otherwise in great health!
Hello from JA
No there is no standard name for this.
However, you do have hormonal changes, and hormonal imbalance has effects on other enzyme systems, etc.

Another possibility is that you have simply become alcohol sensitive or intolerant...this happens to people and is genetically regulated.

It does also mean that you should have a check up with routine labs to look at liver function and so on.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Please don't forget a positive rating.

have you heard of this from other women (in particular, menopausal women)?
