I'm 71 and have been drinking for 50 years or so. I just had my Gallbladder out and my doctor took a liver biopsy. He says I have stage 1 cirrhosis and there is some scarring. But he also said that at this point the liver can repair itself. My question is will I ever be able to drink a half to a cup of rum again at night to help me sleep?

Hi there,
I am Mysticdoc, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to help you with your concerns.
Sorry to hear that.
Unfortunately, alcohol should be avoided at any cost to help your liver recover fully over time.
Any future drinking episode can precipitate the liver problem again.
Hence, it is better to stay away from alcohol all together.
Also, tylenol should be avoided and any other liver toxic medication as much as possible.
Please follow closely with your doctor.
Best wishes,
