How after a person is bitten by an animal that may have

This answer was rated:

How long after a person is bitten by an animal that may have rabies, can a person wait to be treated? My daughter is in Turkey and a monkey nipped at her, there was no bleeding. She will be home tomorrow evening and by the time I bring her to the ER, it will have been about 50 hours since the incident. Can a vaccine still be effective after that kind of delay?

Hi there,

I am Mysticdoc, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to help you with your concerns.

Mysticdoc :

Rabies prophylaxis ideally should be started as soon as possible.

Mysticdoc :

However, studies have shown, delayed prophylaxis like 50 hours later in your daughter's case, is also very effective.

Mysticdoc :

In fact delays up to 6 yrs also has been found to be effective.

Mysticdoc :

So, you should not worry too much.
