I have a health insurance question...l am 48 year old

Customer Question

I have a health insurance question...l am 48 year old healthy man. I've had health ins for over 10 years and have only used it for a handful of random issues i.e. colds sore throats etc...I live in Ohio...my question is why cant I find affordable health insurance? Is there certain health ins companies for each state or something like that is making my friend's (from Pennsylvania) with pre existing health issues half the price of mine ea month.

Hello
There is a state to state variation.
But 2 things are going on.
Policies are becoming more competitive so your friends might have an off brand that is undercutting the major companies.
Cheaper plans are all over the place but have high deductibles. This is usually how one gets a cheaper month to month plan.
Cheap meaning 400 dollars a month on average..so , really there is no such thing as cheap, a health individual might do somewhat better on a single plan.
If you have more details I can work with let me know.

Thanks for your response. Actually my friend's insurance is First Priority, offers 6 free visits per year, minimal co-pay for rx's and does have a higher hospitalization co-pay (which is fine). I'm just kinda feeling my ins agent isn't really working for MY best interests, but maybe her commissions better.

My friend's paying around 150.00 per month. What do you think?

As I said.
An off brand.
Not UHC, Aetna, etc.
So that is what I think is happening.
Also you have to look at the policy very carefully in comparing with other policies, and I would ask for a break by break comparison from your agent.
