This could be blocked eustachian tubes.

This is treated with antihisamines and econgestants.

Some chiropractors do a proceure called coblation,which unblocks them and the sinuses.

It is hard to find a doctor who does this.

Ear popping is always due to imbalance in the inner ear pressure, which is due in part from eustachian tube dysfuncion.

I could get technical about this, but trust me, it's the only thing that causes imbalanced pressure.

The tubes are VERY thin, and even with CT scan may not show up as abnormal.
Coachrobmd :
An ENT doctor can measure pressures if needed.
Coachrobmd :
Tempero-Mandibular Joint disorder (TMJ) is another problem that needs to be ruled out.

This clasically presents with popping as you describe.
Coachrobmd :
Your dentist can analyze your jaw for this.
Coachrobmd :
TMJ does not show up on scans by the way.
Coachrobmd :
it is treated with bite guards which align the jaw.

Pretty easy to fix.

I think TMJ is the most likely, yet often overlooked, diagnosis in cases such as these.
Coachrobmd :
Ask him if he is experienced in TMJ diagnosis. If not, your dentist is.

This is a classic presentation in fact.

I had it myself, and a bite guard cured it.
