What does it mean when one is diagnosed with blood clots in the spleen? Is this an emergency as far as treatment is concerned?

has he had any symptoms or evidence of abnormal bleeding? On any meds?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Was diagnosed with cancer of the asaphgus and was taking xzolda and did have chemo treatments before oral meds. Is now off oral meds.No abnormal bleeding.

Thank you for the additional information. Blood clots in the spleen usually refer to thrombosis or blockage of one or more of blood vessels in the spleen. These may resolve spontaneously however If there is infarction of splenic tissue and complications ensue then the spleen must be removed surgically. The major complications of splenectomy would be a more likelihood to have infections after the spleen is removed.
