I have had diarrhea for 3 days along with stomach cramping

Resolved Question:

I have had diarrhea for 3 days along with stomach cramping and aches and pains, mainly in my lower body and fatigue. No respiratory symptoms, no vomiting. Doesn't seem to have improved since the first day

Hello

Mysticdoc :

Thanks for your question.

Mysticdoc :

If you have not seen any blood in stool, then this can still be a viral illness.

Mysticdoc :

Viral illness can take 5-7 days sometimes to clear up.

Mysticdoc :

You can take loperamide ( imodium) tablets to stop the diarrhea.

Mysticdoc :

Continue with fluids, anf liquid diet.

Mysticdoc :

Advance as tolerated.

Mysticdoc :

If your diarrhea does not improve at all, in next 2-3 days, then bacterial infection is a possibility.

Mysticdoc :

Then this requires clinical evaluation and probably a course of antibiotics.

Customer:

Is it normal to have leg and back pain with a viral illness?

Mysticdoc :

yes it is

Mysticdoc :

in fact that is more suggestive of viral illness.

Customer:

So a virus, meaning it's not food poisoning or anything like that? I guess I assumed that most viruses typically have upper respiratory symptoms. Thank you for your help.

Mysticdoc :

yes correct.

Mysticdoc :

viruses also can affect the stomach like rota virus, noro virus etc.

Mysticdoc :

This should get better.
