Resolved Question:

I get severe muscle cramp in my left side rib cage. Very painful. I also get them in my feet. This is daily. Am I missing a nutrient or is there anything I can do about it? I am a 61 year old woman - fairly active - but I have had lung surgery on the left side (pleurectomy) for a spontaneous pneumothorax.

Cramps generally fall into three causal areas
Circulation problems
Spinal problem
Electrolyte problem

Most common electrolyte as a culprit in chronic situations is magnesium
This can be measured as intracellular magnesium
calcium potassium sodium and chloride should also be checked.

Spine should be assessed as disc disease is frequently missed in the earlier stages.

Pulses can easily be checked on exam.
good luck
