Hello,

Mysticdoc :

Thanks for your question.

Mysticdoc :

Do you notice any swelling outside the knee joint?

Mysticdoc :

How long you have this problem going on?

Customer:

some swelling on outside of knee and this has been going on for about two weeks...not getting better and don't remember doing anything to cause the burning pain and numbness

Mysticdoc :

ok

Mysticdoc :

This is likely the bursitis.

Mysticdoc :

Bursitis refers to the inflammation of the fluid sac around the knee joint.

Mysticdoc :

This can cause these symptoms.

Customer:

what can I do to "fix" it

Mysticdoc :

Apply ice generously, use a knee splint during walking, take naproxen 2-3 tablets daily.

Mysticdoc :

These measures should help in resolving the issue.

Customer:

Have RA so I take celebrix, will that work?

Mysticdoc :

If it does not improve in a week with these measures, you should see a orthopedic surgeon to aspirate the fluid and do a local steroid injection.

Mysticdoc :

yes, celebrex will work as well.

Customer:

I have had bursitis before in various places but never had numbness

Mysticdoc :

no this can cause by pressing on the nerve.

Mysticdoc :

the swelling can press on the nerve.

Mysticdoc :

but this resolves along with resolution of bursitis.

Customer:

makes sense...will try the ice and knee splint when walking...broke the knee cap 5 years ago but didn't need surgery

Mysticdoc :

ok

Mysticdoc :

this should improve

Mysticdoc :

best wishes
