What does pain between the shoulder blades mean? This has

Resolved Question:

What does pain between the shoulder blades mean? This has been going on on and off for several days. Taking tylenol has helped. I am a 57 year old female. I went swimming in a pool and wondered if I had pulled something but this is not going away. I have had something like this before but it usually would have gone away by now.

Mysticdoc :

Hello,

Mysticdoc :

Thanks for your question.

Mysticdoc :

Pain between the shoulder blades can be caused by muscle strain of the back commonly.

Mysticdoc :

This is plusible since it happended to you following the swimming.

Mysticdoc :

Another possibility is underlying thoracic aortic disease.

Mysticdoc :

Thoracic aorta is a big blood vessel.

Mysticdoc :

An aneurysm or dilatation of this aorta can cause pain between the shoulder blades.

Mysticdoc :

If you have history of hypertension or heart disease, this possibility should be ruled out with a Ct scan of the chest with contrast.

Mysticdoc :

Otherwise, this is likely a muscle sprain.

Mysticdoc :

you may consider chiropractor therapy along with heat application for recovery.

Mysticdoc :

Best wishes

Customer:

I do have a history of hypertension and take medication for it. I also have diabetes type 2 controlled with diet and exercise.

Mysticdoc :

I will suggest to check out the aortic aneurysm possibility.

Mysticdoc :

If that is negative this is then muscle sprain.

Customer:

So, I need to get a CT scan?

Mysticdoc :

after clinical evaluation yes you should request for one with contrast.

Customer:

okay. Does a heart attack manifest itself with these symptoms?

Mysticdoc :

yes, this can also be seen with heart disease as well.

Customer:

Thank you.

Mysticdoc :

Since you are diabetic you need to be little careful with these symptoms.

Mysticdoc :

The heart can be checked out with a EKG and cardiac enzymes.,

Customer:

Should I be seen right away like an ememgency situation?

Mysticdoc :

Yes i think you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

Mysticdoc :

This is especially true since tylenol is not proving helpful.

Customer:

Okay I will, thank you very much.

Mysticdoc :

I wish you best of luck,

Mysticdoc :

i do not want to scare you--but this is in +y+ou6r best 0interest.
