Jef Burk :

Hi

Jef Burk :

Is this the same on both hands?

Customer:

yes

Jef Burk :

Good

Jef Burk :

To be frank I would not be at all worried about thus

Jef Burk :

this!

Customer:

I just noticed this yesterday for some reason, have high BP and didn't know why they disapear when I raise my arm

Jef Burk :

If it were only one hand then that could be an issue but as it is both you have no need to worry.

Customer:

extremely strange that it just started showing up, maybe age or diet?

Jef Burk :

Veins always vanish when you raise your hands - the blood in them is under low pressure - so if you place your hands above the level of your heart the blood flows out of them under gravity

Customer:

why would it just start showing up

Jef Burk :

the converse is also true - bend over and touch your toes - blood flows into them and they fill

Customer:

so nothing to worry about

Jef Burk :

your veins can be more prominent for a few reasons - warm enviroment for example

Jef Burk :

it is not a symptom of any disease - but can be if just on one sde

Jef Burk :

side

Jef Burk :

yes - nothing to worry about

Jef Burk :

have you any other symptoms that you are anxious about?

Customer:

I'm just curious, I know it's getting warmer and I just notice this, I work out of my garage office, but does age have a lot to do with this

Jef Burk :

as we age we tend to have less fat in our arms / hands so our veins can seem more prominent

Customer:

someone said if the veins look green that could be a sign of a problem

Jef Burk :

you can often observe very obvious veins in an older person especially if they are thin

Customer:

so the color has no problem

Jef Burk : there is no illness that causes green veins!
Jef Burk :

the color is irrelevant

Customer:

by the way, I get the red splotches on my arms that kind of scale over and then go away, what is that

Jef Burk :

lots of possible causes!

Jef Burk :

sun spots ( aktinic keratosis) , psoriasis etc

Customer:

I guess, it could be diet or whatever, but they do go away.

Jef Burk :

you would need to let a dr have a look at these

Customer:

definitely not sun spots

Jef Burk :

ok - difficult to make a precise diagnosis without seeing them!

Customer:

well Doc, I guessed you earned your money, I feel better now mentally. thanks for your comments thanks for your help

Jef Burk :

you are very welcome

Customer:

guess, I'm just getting old (er)

Jef Burk :

as are we all!

Customer:

thanks for your help

Jef Burk :

have a good day

Jef Burk :

bye
