Quite simply it would be very very unusual for an enlarge prostate to have an effect on your bowel movements. most likely your bowel movements if they have changed recently towards constipation would be altered for some other reason. You may have had a recent diet change or less hydration or this may simply be a natural change for you. However at your age if you have not had a recent colonoscopy or examination any time a person has a change in their bowel habits it is wise to have this checked. Your doctor can palpate your abdomen and also do a test to see if there is any blood in your stool. He may or may not want to suggest further evaluation at that point. In the meantime stay well hydrated take plenty of fiber and bulk in your diet and you may take an over the counter stool softener such as Colace until you can see your doctor.
