I am a 72 year old woman. I am extremely tired and get out

Resolved Question:

I am a 72 year old woman. I am extremely tired and get out of breath easily. I am having very cold chills and then get very warm. I am having trouble swallowing and did have some mucus (with a little blood). Could this be a cold, or flu? I have these extreme cold chills quite often lately. I live alone and can not get out.....the snow and ice storm has really done a job this week. Anything I can take? Suggestions for not getting so chilled are wecomed.

Are you coughing at all?

Have you checked your temperature?

My normal temperature is usually around 96.5 it has been 100 a few times today. Is is 99.5 now.

This could be the flu but I am more concerned that you could have a pneumonia. Also, do you have any history of heart problems, such as congestive heart failure? You do need to see a doctor right away, is there one that can make a house call?

The chicken broth as well as warm tea will help. Please try and eat a few bites of something every hour. Also, do you have a heating pad or electric blanket to keep you warm?

Again, I am very concerned about your lungs. I hope you can seek medical attention soon. If worse comes to worse, an ambulance can come and bring you to the ER for evaluation.
