This answer was rated:

stabbing pain in lower left shoulder blade area of my back wakes me up at night.. feels better when i get up. happens when i move in my sleep and when i get up out of bed

Do you feel any difficulty in moving the shoulder?

At exactly what site do you feel the pain?

Is there any other symptom or breathing difficulty?

Do you take any medicine?

No difficulty moving the shoulder. The pain is in the area of the lower left scapula area of my back. No difficulty breathing and am taking hydrocodone at bedtime to help me sleep.

Thank you for the information,

The pain in the area of the lower left scapula area of the back which precipitates on movement during sleep can be due to musculoskeletal in origin.

Acid peptic disease, reflux can also produce pain in the back but it should not be related to movement.

Sometimes ischemia of the heart can cause pain in the back, specially in the woman.

Tylenol can be taken to check whether it helps.

If the pain persists, you should consult doctor for examination and investigations to find out the cause and treatment as it is necessary.

Please feel free for any follow up query.

Best wishes.

It does not hurt when I lay on my right side. Only causes pain when I am on my left side or on my back. If I accept this answer for payment, does that mean I can no longer ask more questions about this?
It can be that there is some muscle strain in the left side.

You can ask related question even after accepting the answer.

Thank you.
