Customer Question
I am confused. Four...
I am confused. Four years ago I had a MRI showing 20 lesions on my brain. In December 2009 I had another one and there are now an additional 30 lesions. MS is suspected. But the LP was negative. All the other stuff ruled out. The only positive blood test low B12 and some mild neuropathy in my feet/legs. I have experienced depression, some decrease in cognitive abilities, sexual dysfunction, fatigue and one incident with blurry vision and slurred speech that could have been TIAs. I feel numbness in my feet and legs over the past year and a general loss of sensation in tactile senses over the past decade. Should I believe I could have MS and use the recommended medication? Or just wait to see if symptoms get worse, or it's benign if I have it at all? And if I don't, why 20 lesions, now 50 (progression) From what? Lyme disease, HIV, Syphilis, vasculitus, etc. etc. all ruled out. Only positive beside MRIs is low B12 which is not even necessarily related to the MS and the neuropathy, also not necessarily related to the MS. ??? Any suggestions appreciated.

hello
These high number of lesions which you mention can occur in Multiple Sclerosis , Vasculitis . It is very unlikely to occur in Syphilis ,Lyme's disease .
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic relapsing / remitting disorder and hence your shouldn't wait for the symptoms to progress.
Your treatment should be started as soon as possible as there are no diagnostic tests that can completely rule out multiple sclerosis.
Short pulses of Methylprednisolone , beta interferons are ideal treatment options.
thanks

The meds (beta interferons) seem pretty serious and have side effects I'm concerned about due to a hx of depression. The lumbar puncture was negative. I guess I feel like my symptoms should be more obvious and severe like blindness or paralysis to be convinced it's MS. Plus there is mild neuropathy (based on nerve conduction test) that correlates with low Vitamin B12 levels in my blood test. The neuropathy, as I understand it, is a different issue than the MS so that is confusing to me, as it was this numbness I feel in legs/feet that made me start to think maybe I DO have MS. I have had one episode of blurry vision, slurred speech, saggy face for approx. 24 hours. I have had one severe episode of vertigo many years ago and a kind of mild vertigo off and on always. I have had a slow progressive loss of sensation I at first attributed to menopause (at age 42) and sexual dysfunction (low libido) for 15 years. Also long-term hx of clinical depression dx at age 35. Also some cognitive decline and dysphasia. Have Babinski's reflex also. Loss of balance during neuro testing while trying to walk foot to foot with arms held out on sides.

It bothers me to think of taking such serious medications if my symptoms are not as severe, but I guess next time a lesion could hit something that could make me blind, etc. IF this is MS. What else could it be now that all the other stuff ruled out by blood tests? Would you take this stuff even if your symptoms didn't seem severe to you?

Thanks

hello
these medicines are absolutely safe if taken well monitored and will surely make you feel a lot better .
Vitamin B 12 injections taken thrice a month initally will also help in the well being.
