Customer Question
I had my gallbladder removed...
I had my gallbladder removed in nov due to elevated LFT's (specifically ALT 86, GGT 168) They remained elevated for 4 more months so my GI had a biopsy done, which came back normal.
I have been having some cramping abdominal pain along with some pain on my left ribcage that is a little to the to the left and strait down from my nipple. The pain sometimes goes to the underarm as well as the back.
My G.I. thinks I may have IBS as I still have pain under my ribs on the right side as well. But I have pretty consistent bowel movements without many bouts with Diarrhea. Any thoughts.
My Liapase reading have always been normal by the way

Dear Iainsdaddy,

I am sorry to know about your symptoms,

I will advise that you ask your physician to do spincter of oddi manometry as underlying bilary dyskinesia, which is improper flow of bile from liver to duodenum(part of small intestine) may lead to similar pain, elevated liver enzymes as yours,so this needs to be ruled out.
IBS is adiagnosis of exclusion,so to reach to this diagnosis,we have to rule out other causes first.

Thanks

Thanks Dr.

So the Spincter of oddi can also cause pain on the left side? I do occaisonally get a weird pulsating sensation after eating, in both my left and right side could that be due to the spincter of oddi?
Doctor: Dr. B., Doctor replied 8 years ago
it may lead to left sided pain,so that is the reason I mentioned bilary dyskinesia as possible diagnosis. The weird pulsation could be due to arrhythmia or any cause, which needs to be seen ,during physical exam.

Thanks

I just looked up bilary dyskinesia, I have already had my gallbladder removed. Would that still point toward S.O.D.?
Doctor: Dr. B., Doctor replied 8 years ago
Bilary dyskinesia is due to malfunction of sphincter of oddi.
As you do have cholecystectomy done(removal of gall bladder) ,still symptoms presist then spincterectomy is considered.

Thanks

Thanks Dr. the so many new terms tends to confuse me My G.I. doesn't think it's S.O.D. but I am currently seeking a second opinon. Have a great night
Doctor: Dr. B., Doctor replied 8 years ago
You too,have a great night.
I mentioned this,as before reaching diagnosis of IBS,we have to rule out other causes.

Thanks
