So you'd rather go the "natural" way to lower cholesterol rather than by prescription? What's your height and weight? Any other medical conditions and any risk factors for heart attack like smoking or family history?

lowering cholestoral which we found out through a life line screening test today... 6.14.2010 we will of corse pay attention to diet, exercise, there was never any smoking....

OK, first off, at your age and barring any risks for heart attack, you'd like to see your LDL come down to 110 or lower, and it would help if your HDL could rise at least 20 points. The most important way of making that happen is to lose weight--in your case, at least 20 pounds. That can only be done by restricting your daily calorie intake to no more than about 1,200 and getting at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at least three times a week. It doesn't so much matter what you eat as the calories involved, but i would help to have a low cholesterol/low fat diet, excluding most dairy products, fried foods, red meat, etc. In addition, niacin, artichoke extract, fiber, beta-sitosterol, coenzyme Q10, and red yeast rice are also suggested. With all that, you may be able to get the levels where you want them, but, unfortunately, there are some people that need prescription cholesterol-lowering medication no matter what they do.
