I'm a disabled Veteran who has had 5 lumbar fusions

Customer Question
L3-tailbone. and a cervical fusion...
I'm a disabled Veteran who has had 5 lumbar fusions L3-tailbone. and a cervical fusion at c3-c5 with all hardware still in no ortho dr's will renove it saying will cause more damage then good. I go thru pain daily and have a left leg that drags when i become tired. My problem is this I been seeing a Pain Management Dr. for 8 years now. I started off on Vicodin and soma and after 2 years of my Dr fighting with me I gave in to him wanting to put me on Oxycontin and Methadone. 6 yrs later my Dr was giving me 4 80mg oxy TID. so thats 360 month plus 1200 10mg methadone a month. he also gave me 270 soma a month 270 norco a month. Three days ago he decided out of the blue to stop all meds without any help or reason. I have family and friends telling me the sudden drop can cause me to have seizures and even death. What am I supposd to do in this situation, I didnt want these pills he put me on them now just dropped me

Greetings. Withdrawal from pain medication is unpleasant but is not life threatening like alcohol or Valium/Xanax/klonopin withdrawal can be. If you wish to stay on your pain medications, you should obtain a copy of your records and ask your primary doctor to help you find a new pain management doctor and ask your primary for help tiding you over until you get in to see a new specialist.

I already knew that. I was asking you what symptoms might come my way as i mentioned like seizures or death. your answer was just plain and didnt respond to what i asked.

Hello

I imagine your agony and hence understand your anger.

However, on a deeper thought, these emotions can only become a vicious cycle without a clear solution.

It is difficult to procrastinate on the reasons why the doctor stopped the medications, but I can imagine that he had attempted to wean you off the Vico by adding the oxy+ met.

Whatever it is, it is a condition which you ASOLUTELY need management for your pain .

The withdrawal is going to make you sick sometimes, but definitely would not lead to seizure (not to talk of death).

I suggest that you seek a second opinion, but this time allow the doctors time to make OBJECTIVE assessment of your status and design a pain management protocol.

You definitely need a second opinion
