There are certain risks of taking Estrogen supplements after menopause, though for many women the benefits may out weigh the risks.
There may be an increased risk of stroke and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in postmenopausal women 50 years of age or older and an increased risk of dementia in postmenopausal women 65 years of age or older using Premarin conjugated equine estrogens (CEE). The estrogen-plus-progestin may have an increased risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, invasive breast cancer, pulmonary emboli and DVT in postmenopausal women 50 years of age or older and an increased risk of dementia in postmenopausal women 65 years of age or older.
Hence just like all other medicines, this should be used judiciously. under expert supervision. Any competent physician can prescribe the same, even years after having stopped it previously.
I see that you have tried black cohosh.
There are a few other herbal alternatives that may be safe and quite effective. These include Dong Qai, Red Clover and Maca Root. Read more here
