Resolved Question:

Hello,
How does one unplug a salivary gland. This has happened once before about 4 years ago. I cannot remember what my family Dr told me to do?
Thank you,

Welcome to JA - sorry you are going through this, let me opine.

Here's what can be done at home:

1) massage the blocked gland

2) apply a warm compress

3) lower your salt in your diet

4) apply lemon juice to the area to break it down

If this doesn't work, you may need your doctor to instrument the stone out.

Does this help?

Hello & Thank You.

Your answers all make sense. One other question please..does the lemon juice go inside the mouth or outside on the gland?

So you think there is a stone causing this blockage?

Expert:  T Khan replied 7 years ago.

The lemon juice goes on the inside, at the opening because the acidity of the lemon juice will help break it up.

This is likely a stone as that is the most common cause of recurrent blockages.

other possibilites:

- infection

- auto-immune disease like Sjorgens

- dry mouth (xerostomia).

Does that help?

ThankYou!

What about the Lemon?

Inside the mouth or outside on the skin of the neck?

Expert:  T Khan replied 7 years ago.

The lemon juice goes on the inside, at the opening because the acidity of the lemon juice will help break it up.

Good luck.
