Hello Kate,

Do you take any medications?
Have any chronic health problems?
Are you having headaches?
Chest pain?
Shortness of breath?
Swelling in the legs?

Hi Dr Abby

I do not take any medication

No chronic health problems - although I did have polymyalgia rheumatica for a few years but now gone

I have had headaches lately for a few days, but don't normally have them

I have had tightening around my chest a few times - but I have a large bust and bras can be tight

I had swollen legs when abroad the other week - on a cruise and couldn't put my shoes on for a few days

I do have shortness of breath being so overweight

I have also lost confidence when walking - especially as it's been snowing and icy here at the moment. I think though it is due to the dizziness

Thank you for the additional information,

Just a few more questions,

When you say your blood pressure was normal, what do you consider normal?
When was your last doctor visit?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.

my blood pressure was 120/70 for a long time

My last visit was about 3 months ago to the GP

The blood pressures that you have been getting recently are high and can be considered dangerous if you are having associated symptoms (headache, numbness on one side of the body, facial weakness, slurred speech, chest pain, weakness on one side of the body, imbalance, etc).

The fact that you are describing tightness in the chest, shortness of breath (may be due to your weight--in my opinion should still be checked out), headaches and dizziness all means you need to see your doctor.

Over time, an elevated blood pressure can lead to heart failure and kidney problems (to name a few long term complications)

Acutely it can lead to a stroke or heart attack.

If you develop any of the above symptoms with the elevation in blood pressure you need to go to the emergency room. Otherwise, make an appointment with your doctor for some blood work, ekg, etc.

Watch your salt intake (try to limit it to less than 2.5 grams).

Let me know if you have any follow up questions and I will be happy to answer for you,
