That is called dyshidrotic eczema and is very common. They usually itch but scratching only worsens the rash. It will clear up spontaneously sometimes the same day. The cause is unknown among traditional physicians, but complementary physicians believe that the cause is an allergic reaction to something you ate, touched or even smelled. It most commonly is caused by dairy, wheat, corn, yeast, egg or chocolate - the culprit is usually the one you love and eat all the time. See if you can track it down and eliminate it from your diet or treat it with provocation/neutralization therapy provided by a physician who is a member of the AAEM. Thank you for your question.
