Resolved Question:

why is my doctor ordering a Bun/Creatinine test before a Cat Scan

The CT scan will evidently include the giving of contrast. It is standard to make sure that you have normal kidney function so that the contrast will be excreted normally. The BUN/creatinine test is to check your kidney function. The radiologist prefer not to give contrast if the creatinine is above 2.0.

I hope this helps to clarify the reasoning behind this. further questions are welcome if you have any.
