Usually this type of fault here is caused by a faulty door latch needing replaced.I have seen several door latch failures before cause this here.Usually the door paneling has to be pulled back or removed as best as possible ( and in some cases this can damage the paneling to where it would need repaired or replaced after) then the latch can be accessed to try and trigger manually to open then the latch replaced.
In some cases I have had to cut out the latch to get the door opened then replace it unfortunately.I have also used a lock smith which in some cases they can use their tools to open the latch to then replace it.
