Side mirror (passenger side) won't fold in or out and is now loose.
JA: What is the model/year of your Mazda?
Customer: 2013 CX-5
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I can hear folding motor running. I think a cog or connection has slipped or broken.
JA: How many miles are on the car? Is it an automatic or a manual transmission?
Customer: If I can open side mirror I can quickly see if problem can be fixed or if replacement mechanism is needed.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?

I have not seen these mirrors become loose, unless they were damaged from the outside.
You need to remove the Mirror & have a look, as it sounds like you may have to replace the complete Mirror Assembly
