Customer Question

Our 2002 MPV van's engine light keeps coming on and our mechanic cannot fix it. He just replaced an exhaust manifold that was cracked and a O2 sensor. The light came back on after about 30 miles.

Do you happen to have the current p-codes that are setting the light?

Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Hello, what codes were stored for the checking engine light? The vehicle runs ok?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The van runs good. The codes that came up are: PO420 and PO401.
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Ok P0420 indicates an issue with the Bank 1 catalytic convertor not cleaning properly ( emissions) and P0401 indicates a fault with the egr valve operation which is usually an issue with the DPFE sensor which measures egr flow. The cat code will set if the upstream oxygen sensor and downstream after cat, cat monitor sensor have the same readings, meaning the cat isnt cleaning the exhaust gases. so the cat convertor would need replaced.
