Hello my name is ***** ***** easist way to tell if your timing belt is broken is how the engine sounds when you crank to start it! If the belt is broken, the crankshaft is turning with the starter and the camshaft is no longer turning. This means that the valves are not opening and closing so on the cylinders that have the valves open, will not have compression! This will allow for the engine cranking speed to sound very abnormal and it is very obvious as the engine sound will speed up and not sound normal. Next you should pull the spark plugs to check engine compression and then The next more intrusive way to tell is to remove the valve cover and inspect the belt physically?
