2005 Mazda Tribute: assembly..haynes manual..Wont shift..park

Trying to find out how to change out a floor/gear shifter assembly on a 2005 Mazda Tribute. Have the Haynes manual, but they don't go into how. Won't shift out of park alot.

If the brake lights always work when the brakes are applied then most likely it is a weak brake shift interlock on the shifter which is not sold separate however you do need to remove the shifter bezel and clean it soapy water to rule out a drink spilled in and making it sticky. If that does not resolve it then a new shifter is in order. Below are 3 files showing the directions.
