Chirag :

Hi, welcome to Just Answer!

Chirag :

By Symbolic techniques, we mean techniques that use the usual algebra to find the solution to the linear equations.

Chirag :

Two symbolic techniques available to solve linear equations are

(a) Elimination (addition) method

(b) Substitution method

Chirag :

By far I feel it is better to solve a pair of linear simultaneous equations by the method of elimination. This is because this method is easier to apply and can be applied to any type of problem and with any type of coefficients. Many a time, substitution may be too rigorous to perform.

Chirag :

For example, a system of equations such as {2x + 3y = 34, 25x + 30y = 350} is best solved by elimination, by multiplying the first equation by 10 and subtracting it from the second.
