I have a 3 year old Raymarine Smart Pilot XR-5 autopilot on

Customer Question

I have a 3 year old Raymarine Smart Pilot XR-5 autopilot on my Scout 280 and my steering is getting stiffer with time. It feels like it is not fully disengaged when it is placed on standby. Is there a clutch or some other part I need to replace?

Hi Ed,this isn't a clutch in this case but could this sounds more like a part binding. This needs to be checked by a marine mechanic to see if it needs to be serviced(lubed and inspected). This would be advisable so it doesn't fail in operation. If you need further help you can ask me anytime after rating, no charge for rating;-)Have a great day Ed;-)Tech Mike
