Mac g5 questions.desktop. I have a 2012 g5 running mountain

Customer Question

Mac g5 questions.desktop.
I have a 2012 g5 running mountain lion 0S.
There are 1000s of dollars in music an video software on it from that time period.
Protools, final cut pro, etc.
But many other newer programs and web browsers won't run on this older os.
So can I upgrade to a newer os but still run the older software?
To complicate matters the machine downloaded a Apple update the other day and now it crashes a dozen times or so when I fire it up before actually running.

Do you have a Time Machine Backup?

Expert:  OakdaleTech replied 1 month ago.

If you do you will be able to erase and reinstall the OS on your computer using this guide:

Reinstall Instructions

1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately hold Command (⌘)-R
2. Release the keys when you see the Apple logo or a spinning globe.

2. Decide whether to erase (format) your disk

If you need to erase your disk before installing macOS, select Disk Utility from the Utilities window, then click Continue. You probably don't need to erase, unless you're selling or giving away your Mac or have an issue that requires you to erase.

3. When you see the macOS Utilities window, click Reinstall macOS.

To restore from your backup you will need to use this guide: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203981

If you do not have a backup then you will need to try to manually remove the data from the computer and then perform a reinstall and the move the data back.

I would prefer to do this and other fixes with you on line remotely eith me. However, safari will not let me log onto justanswer. I get the "safari can't connect because the site is not secure". I tried some DNS fixes, etc. But no go. I had to contact you with my phone.
I haven't tried logmein yet.
Any thoughts?
